Readers Gallery

We recently received a very nice note from a reader here in California.  While we exchanged ideas and information on the upcoming Pacific Primitive Rendezvous in Paisley, Oregon (More on this later.--Ed.) he send us a picture of himself and his wife at one of California's missions.  It was such a nice gesture it started me wondering if we shouldn't put up a gallery of photos from our readers all across North America and around the world.  To that end this newest section of the Armory Hill Web site is now dedicated.

To secure a place on this page all you have to do is send a photo of yourself or your group to staff@armoryhill.com along with a brief description of your character.  If your group would like to be featured send at least four pictures of yourselves and let us know a little bit about your activities.

There are a world of re-enactors out there and Armory Hill would like to make sure they get a chance to share their talents with other, like-minded, folks.

Randy and Lynn Bublitz
Randy and Lynne Bublitz at La Purissima Mission
Randy Bublitz and his lovely wife Lynne are a couple involved in many aspects of our hobby.  Not only do they participate in primitive rendezvous throughout the Western Unites States but they are also active in early California events like the one shown here at La Purissima Mission near their Central California home close to Fresno.  It was Randy's letter to us that started me thinking about this feature.  For that a great big AHLHA thank you!
Jean Baptiste and Dave Adkins
"The Reverend" and Jean Baptiste at the 2001 Brushy Creek Rendezvous
"The Reverend" and our own Jean Baptiste at last year's Invitational Primitive rendezvous in Brushy Creek, California.  Jean and "The Rev" have been camping together for many years at various gatherings here on the West Coast.  If you run into either of them at an event just stick close and you're bound to have a good time.  Maybe learn something, too.

The "Deerkill Group" on a period hunt
Just the other day we heard from another group of Northern California re-enactors.  Located in the Sacramento area, these friends state their common interests as "...French and Indian War era re-enactment/trekking, hunting, primitive skills and BLACKPOWDER!"  In the photo on the left they are (from L to R) Don "Deathmarch" Hutchins, Dwight "Preacher" Havens, and Lloyd "Josiah May" Parker.  Here they are trekking the Sierra Nevada in true 18th century style.  Josiah would like to hear from any one in the Sacramento area with similar interests.  Drop him a line at josiah_may@yahoo.com.  Sounds like something Jean Baptiste might be interested in.  He does live up in those parts, you know.

Manfred "Monty" Schmitz from Köln, Germany
Well it seems that Armory Hill has gone truly international.  We recently recieved a very nice letter and photographs from one of our brothers in re-enacting in Germany.  Manfred "Monty" Schmitz writes "I am a re-enactor of the historical American cowboy and for the last few years also as a longhunter of the eighteenth century.  A lot of German people are interested in this kind of re-enactment and there are several rendezvous each year in Germany.  I like to practice the primitive skills of the eighteenth century so I can be more independent.

"My campsite is real small and I try to kep my equipment to a minimum as well.  As of today my equipment is not perfect but after each rendezvous I do it better."

Monty, you speak for all of us world-wide.  Thanks for writing and Hertzliche Grüsse vom Amerika!
