Every day, I find myself thinking about my old friend, Brian. Every day. I sure miss him. He would be proud of how much time I've been spending on our hobby.
I just got back from the Pacific Primitive Rendezvous for 2008, and it was a blast. I camped with 11 of my friends - the usual group. If you know the experience of seeing friends for the first time in a year, their smiling, glowing faces reflecting the campfire back at you while they chat away the evening, telling stories of the past year and warming you with their love - well, then you know how I feel. I've just gotten back from seeing my greatest friends at the PPR, and I'm still basking in the glow. I love my friends!
Lately, I've been spedning most of my reenacting time at Coloma's Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park (MGDSHP). I'm a Docent down there, and have worked with the Volunteer Coordinator, John Clagett, to develop the Sawmill Program. Rex Ruth (whom you can read about elsewhere on this site) got me interested in the Park, and John Clagett gives me the inspiration and opportunity to contribute down there. I like giving the Sawmill Talk and demonstrating the hand-hewing techniques that the men in Coloma used to build the original mill. MGDSHP also has a cooperating association that supports the Park, the Gold Discovery Park Association (GDPA).
I bid you fare well on a familiar trail.---JBL
