Back in the Saddle again

Well, there have been quite a few miles under the airplane since I sat down in front of the computer to "pen" another installment of "From the Editor's Desk." Robin and my vacation to Colonial Williamsburg has come and gone and we're both back in the saddle with work and family.  If you're a regular reader then you've seen the first installment of Colonial Williamsburg, or how we spent an enjoyable week away from the twenty-first century, and the kids.  :If you missed it check our Archives page.  Don't forget to take a peek at the Mt Vernon Photo Gallery while you're there.  Mt.Vernon is quite amazing and while our photographs do convey a sense of the place they certainly don't do it justice.  Make the pilgrimage and you'll see what I mean.

Colonial Williamsburg, Part 4 is now in place as our Featured Article. I'm working on Part 5 now and can see another couple if installments are probably going to be necessary to tell the whole story. Jamestown is certainly worth and entire chapter and Yorktown would have been as well, if we had gotten there before all the parks closed. But that's another story and one that I'm sure I'll tell. When have you ever known your editor to be short-winded? I may also do a short piece on Washington, D.C. even though we really only spent a day and a half there before making a side trip to Ft. McHenry in Baltimore on our way back to BWI and home.
One thing I hope does come across in my accountings our our travels is how much we enjoyed our trip to Virginia. The people were all wonderful, the food was great (especially the crab cakes), and the history of the place is overwhelming. The feelings that arise as one actually stands amidst the ruins of the oldest survivng English settlement in North America, and the second oldest European settlement after St. Augustine, FL, cannot be described. They must be experienced to be understood. I sincerely hope it is something all of you are able to do.

The books are piling up on my nightstand, waiting to be read and reviewed.  Be patient. I'll get some more writing done as soon as I can, but with the holidays now in full swing it may be a while before Jean Baptiste and I can get a whole raft of new articles up for your perusal.

That's about it for now. I've got to do some reaseach for a fiction project I'm working on. Who knows, we just might give you all a taste of a mystery set in modern times but in period clothes. That is, if it turns out good enough.

So, until next time, I bid you fare well on a familiar trail.---JBW
